You can receive regular updates and information about UK weather forecasts by using Weathercall, a service provided by Adlard Coles Nautical through the company Marinecall. They are available by telephone, mobile phone or fax. For further information consult the Weather section of Reeds Nautical Almanac.

WEATHER BY TELEPHONE

There are 3 types of recorded forecasts: actual weather, 5-day forecasts for Inshore waters, and Offshore planning forecasts. You can use Weathercall from any landline or mobile network within the UK (including Channel Islands). In case of difficulty contact Customer Services on 0871 200 3985.

Actual weather — current weather, updated hourly, gives hourly summaries for the next 6 hrs at over 160 locations around the UK. Dial 09068 969 + the required area number (full list of numbers shown in the table above).

5-day forecasts for Inshore waters — for any of 15 UK inshore areas, call 09068 969 + the area number. For an inshore waters forecast covering the whole UK for 3 to 5 days ahead, dial 09068 969 640.

Offshore planning forecasts — for 2 to 5-day planning forecasts for offshore areas, updated by 0700 daily, call 09068 969 + the area number for the offshore area listed in the table above.

WEATHER BY FAX

Weathercall offers inshore and offshore forecasts by fax with Standard (£1/min) and Advance levels of service (£1.50/min for more detailed information). See the table above for full listings of area numbers.

Inshore waters forecasts
The 2 page Standard inshore forecast is for up to 48 hours and includes synoptic charts for today and tomorrow. The forecast includes any gale and strong wind warnings, the general situation, wind/speed direction, strength of gusts, weather, visibility and sea state. See the table below for a full list of numbers.

The 3 page Advance inshore forecast includes the above, plus a tabulated hourly forecast over the next 6 hrs for 4 key places in the area. Dial 09065 222 + the area number shown in the table above.

Offshore planning forecasts
The 2 page Standard offshore forecast includes 2-5 day planning forecasts and 2-5 day synoptic charts for the offshore areas listed in the table above. The forecast includes wind, weather, visibility, and sea states.

The 3 page Advance offshore forecast includes the above, plus four diagrams showing contours of significant wave heights in the forecast area. Dial 09065 222 + area number.


WEATHER BY MOBILE PHONE

If you have a mobile phone, you can have the latest Met Office weather forecast.

Forecasts cover over 170 Inshore/Coastal locations and give max temperature, average wind speed, average wind direction, visibility and likelihood of precipitation. Each SMS consists of two weather reports. The first is an overview of the current situation and the second is a summary of weather conditions for the same location in six hours time. Forecasts are based on the latest Met Office information and are updated on an hourly basis. Each forecast also contains an embedded telephone number which allows you to connect to Marinecall audio should you require easy access to an Outlook forecast for up to five days ahead.
